Why does the birdsong please our ears? This might be simply because birds use their sense of beauty to generate attractive songs. We are interested in why songs and music can attract songbirds and humans.
Imitation is a rare ability, which is shared by humans and songbirds. Songbirds can precisely copy the song of others and transmit the song across generations just like human culture. We are studying how the brain drives imitation and contributes to formation of a cultural society.
